Hello Everyone! I hope that you all are having a very happy Sunday so far! 👍🏼👍🏼Earlier this week, I had the best time talking to one of my favorite people, Nia Gribbons, Miss Northwestern Ohio. 👑👑👑Quick side story: she and I did Teens In Training together! 👭
Did you know that 800,000 people are affected by symptoms from Cerebral Palsy on a daily basis? What even is Cerebral Palsy?
Quick thing to know: Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a disability that alters one’s muscle movement. This disability is usually brought on during childhood. 💚
Ok, time to buckle down to business! March 25th is National Cerebral Palsy Day! Hopefully you did not put away that green from St. Patrick’s Day because I highly encourage you to wear it this Monday to raise awareness! 💚💚💚
I am so excited to introduce Nia who is a catalyst for change 💞and very well rounded might I add. Currently, she works with the United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland Organization and Vocal ID which is an organization where YOU can donate your voice to people who do not have the ability to speak. 🎼Nia started a campaign called “Steer Clear of the Hashes” ❌❌to raise awareness about not parking in handicapped parking spots. YOU GO NIA! 💁🏻♀️💁🏻♀️In addition to her unparalleled service, her talent is sign language 🤟 and might I tell you, I saw some of it and it is AMAZINGGGG. 😱😱If you would like to get a little insight on signing in American, check out Nia’s social media pages to see her “Signing Sunday” where she will teach you some. 😉
Nia’s social impact is “Operation Life Unobstructed” 💚💚which raises awareness for the disease Cerebral Palsy. Her passion for her movement come from her personal life that she lives daily. 💟Her sister Kenna, who will be turning 19 🎉in October was born with the disease. For Kenna’s situation, CP has affected her muscles in her mouth. 🧸Thus, she does not have the ability to talk. Based off of her sister’s lifestyle, Nia has found that it is vital that acceptance is taught among every single person. 🎈When she goes into stores with her sister, some people give them weird looks which Nia does not mind because she is proud of her sister and would support her through anything. 💪🏽💪🏽
However, it is my goal with this post and Made of Love Not Genes to prevent those weird looks. So, how can you help? First you can wear green on Monday, and you can think twice before you give that weird look. It may be a small facial expression, but it does not go unnoticed. ❌🧬
If you wear green tomorrow, take @madeoflovenotgenes and @nia_gribbons with your photos on social media!
